Join us for the inaugural meetup on 3rd June 2025

MerseyRails

A Guild of Full Stack Rails Builders

We are a community of full stack Ruby on Rails developers who believe in a better way to build web-based software: one that’s simple, productive, and joyful.

We know that great software doesn’t have to be cobbled together with countless libraries, volatile dependencies and spread across a dozen microservices. Rails offers a powerful, elegant alternative, and we’re here to make the most of it.

Whether you’re working on your own side project, learning Rails for the first time, or looking for a break from the complexity of modern frontend-heavy stacks, you’ve found your people.

Show Up & Ship

Bring your laptop, your project, and your enthusiasm. Each meetup is a low-pressure space to connect with fellow Rails developers, talk about what you're working on, and make real progress on your app, idea, or learning goal.

We'll start by catching up and sharing what we’re working on. From there, you can ask for help, pair up, or dive straight into your next feature. These sessions are about showing up, supporting each other and building something real. Show off what you've built since last time and celebrate your progress with the group.

A rough agenda for the evening:

  • 🕔 Arrive: 17:00

Drop in when you can from 17:00, catch up, set up and get coding.

  • 🍕 Pizza: 18:30

Take a break, grab a slice and chat with fellow Rails devs.

  • 🍻 Drinks: 20:00

Commit, push, and deploy your work. Then head to the pub for a well earnt drink.

Guiding Principles

Support each other to build and ship

Whether you're just starting out or deep into a long-term side project, building in isolation can be tough. We're here to offer encouragement, accountability, and honest feedback so you’re never building alone. This is a space where developers can share their progress, ask for help, and celebrate wins together.

Champion the Rails way

We believe in the power of Rails as a complete, integrated framework that lets individuals and small teams move fast and stay focused. Rails isn't just a tool, it’s a philosophy that values convention over configuration, developer happiness and shipping great software.

Share knowledge and keep growing

We all hit roadblocks. What matters is having a community that helps you get through them. Whether it’s answering questions, sharing resources, or simply cheering each other on, we aim to create a supportive environment where every member can learn and grow with confidence.

Push back against unnecessary complexity

Modern development trends often celebrate complexity, but we don’t. We advocate for tools and practices that prioritise clarity, maintainability, and developer happiness. Rails offers a refreshing alternative, and we’re here to show how powerful simplicity can be when it's backed by strong foundations.
